To prevent, minimize and avoid costly and negative consequences of bacterial biofilms. Microbial biofilm, quality products and traceability.
Mikael Zimmermann 09:00 - 10:00

Microbial biofilm, quality products and traceability. Bacterial biofilms are essential in fr.a. chronic bacterial infections, but can also affect and destroy sophisticated materials and instruments: corrosion of metal is an important consequence. In the biofilm, the bacteria are protected against, among other things, local immunological factors, antibiotics, cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Quality and design of medical devices and instruments are important factors in increasing resistance to negative effects from bacterial biofilm. In the clinic, logistics and careful maintenance of sensitive and sophisticated surgical instruments is one of the important keys to successfully prevent, minimize and/or cure oral infectious diseases. Correct handling of medical devices is very cost-effective where choice of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization processes, allocated time and staff motivation are essential. The latest European regulations place stricter requirements on quality documentation and traceability at all stages from manufacturer to clinic. However, some items cannot be processed successfully enough in the clinic to be reused on the next patient. Properties such as strength, sharpness, precision and safety can be affected.

No one should have to die from oral cancer unnecessarily - Dental hygienists and general dentists become key players in the fight against oral cancer.
Bengt Hasséus, Christina Runow Stark, Jan-Michaél Hirsch, Joakim Lindblad, Kristina Edman, Ronak Sandy 10:30 - 12:00

Tissue biopsy is today the standard procedure in the diagnosis of potentially malignant oral mucosal changes (such as erythroplakia, leukoplakia and verrucous leukoplakia and to some extent erosive and atrophic lichen planus). Since we know that approximately 3.5% of oral leukoplakias develop into squamous cell carcinoma annually, this means that patients with these changes must be monitored for life.

Christer Dahlin, Nicole Winitsky, Åsa Sjöholm
The small dental gap the big problem.
Christer Dahlin, Nicole Winitsky, Åsa Sjöholm 13:30 - 15:00

Occasional tooth loss, especially in the aesthetic zone, places great demands on both dentists and dental technicians. There are often many factors to take into account, such as the patient's age and extra- and intraoral anatomy in the area. During this mini-symposium, the importance of multidisciplinary therapy planning, risk analysis and prognosis assessment will be highlighted. Advantages and disadvantages of various surgical and prosthetic treatment options will be discussed.

Reza Mokthari
The wisdom tooth - not like other teeth - Practical tips and new findings for wisdom tooth surgery.
Reza Mokthari 15:15 - 16:00
